Obituary of Paul Ottinger

Paul C. Ottinger, 72, of Skippack Township, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was the beloved husband of Diane (Detwiler) Ottinger to whom he was married for more than 49 years.

Born March 12, 1945, in Pottstown he was a son of the late Irvin Russell and Gladys Elizabeth (Sabrouch) Ottinger.

Mr. Ottinger served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.  He was a graduate of Collegeville Trappe High School and the Carpenters’, Joint Apprenticeship School in Northeast Philadelphia. After working as a Journeyman Carpenter for many years, he earned a Vocational Education Certificate from Temple University.  Then from 1981 through 2004, he was an instructor at the Joint Apprenticeship School.  He was a member of the Carpenters Local 167 for 45 years.

After he retired, Ottinger drove a school bus for STA in Rahns,  PA.   He was also an avid crafter who created wooden and acrylic pens, bottle stoppers, bowls etc on his lathe.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Gwen Ottinger of Philadelphia, Jill Ottinger of Ambler; and his siblings, John R. Ottinger and Jean Yeakle.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 12 Noon on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at the R. L. Williams, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. Skippack Pike( Rte. 73) at Cedars Rd. Skippack, where friends may greet the family from 11-12. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation at www.themmrf.org.
