Obituary of Robert Rothenberger

 

 

Robert M. “Robbie” Rothenberger, age 93, formerly a life-long resident of Kre-Belle Farm in Worcester Township until the age of 84, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018. He was the husband of Doris E. (Chatburn) Heacock Rothenberger since December 9, 1986. He was preceded in death by his first two wives, Peggy (Yerger) Rothenberger in 1972, and Thelma Lee (Back) Teed Rothenberger in 1979.

 

Born on the family farm in Worcester on March 8, 1924, he was a son of the late Alvin K. and Helen (Moyer) Rothenberger. He graduated from Norristown High School with the class of 1943. He operated the family dairy farm and purchased it in 1972. He became the Director of Montgomery County Parks and Historic Sites in 1969 until his retirement in 1986. He also owned the Helen Y. Fenimore Shop of Norristown, a specialty dress shop.    

 

Mr. Rothenberger was involved with the Republican Party for many years. He first served as a poll worker in 1950 and was actively involved with all local party campaigns through 1959. In 1960, he served on the “Richard Schweiker for Congress” Committee and was active in Montgomery County Republican campaigns since then until 2005. Mr. Rothenberger was a charter member and past president of the North Penn Republican Club and served as an alternate delegate to the 1976 National Convention in 1976.

 

Mr. Rothenberger was a member of Central Schwenkfelder Church and a life member of the Descendants of Schwenkfelders in Exile. He was a past president of the Interstate Milk Producers Co-op District One, a member of the Montgomery County Historic Advisory Board, and the Keystone Grange #2 of Trappe, and served on the Montgomery County Community College Authority Board from 1986-1989.

 

In Worcester Township, he served as Justice of the Peace from 1961-1970 and was a Republican Committeeman from 1989-2002. He served as a constable for Worcester Township from 1998-2005 and was a charter member of the Worcester Lions Club. He was also a member of the Worcester Volunteer Fire Co. and the Worcester Historical Society.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Susan Colgrove (Tom) of Savanah, GA, and Holly Lukens (David) of Fairfax, VA and Naples, FL; four grandchildren, Ben Colgrove (Leigh Anna), Lauren Colgrove Parker (Yates), Peter Lukens (Kate), and Brinton Lukens Burleson (Ashley); and five great grandchildren, Luke, Stella and Claire Colgrove, and Lilyanne and Violet Lukens  He is also survived by two sisters, Margaret Scheid and Louise Reitz; six stepchildren: Debbie Sisco (Richard), Beth Gibson (Douglas), Glenn Heacock, Karen Kernen (Bob), Chris Heacock, and Lori Heacock; ten step grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin K. Rothenberger, and stepson, David Heacock.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 11 AM on Saturday, February 17 at Central Schwenkfelder Church, 2111 S. Valley Forge Rd., Lansdale, PA 19446, where family will receive friends from 10-10:45 AM.  Following the service a luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the church at the address above or to the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary St. Pennsburg, PA 18073.
